Titanium watches-Overview

Titanium is recognized as space age metal. The characteristic of titanium is resistant in though corrosion. The color is silver. You can find titanium in bodies of water and soil deposits in the world. First discovered titanium in 1971. The combination between titanium and other elements can create alloys that are very lightweight. The alloys are for many purposes such as for dental industry, military and aerospace industry. You also can find titanium in automotive products, mobile phone, sporting goods, jewelry and watches.

In 1978, International Watch Co. (IWC) is the first company that used titanium in watch industry. Location of IWC is in Schaffhausen Switzerland. The partially owner IWC at that time is Ferdinand Porsche. Titanium is used for making first watch bracelet. The producing was good, therefore, Porsche created a titanium bracelet and case for other watch industries in 1980. However, IWC was forced to leave from the project, so the company gets complete control of industrialized process. At that point, in time IWC was only producing internal development not cases.

Today, titanium watches are all over the place. Nearly every watch company has titanium design in their watch models. The world’s biggest company of titanium watches is Citizen Watch Company. This company uses titanium for dive and sport’s watches. The reasons are that titanium is resistant in corrosion, hypoallergenic, 30% stronger and 50% lighter than steel. Therefore, titanium is more costly than steel and it can scratch and stain easily. That is why glass multi-layer coating is used by Citizen Company on titanium watches. So the watch become resistant from scratch.

In the marketplace, the amount of titanium watches is increasing. The highest percentage of watches selling is dive and sports watches. Many watch industry use titanium to create the watches. Another watch company that use titanium for titanium watches is Seiko, M.H Bertucci, Skagen, Boccia, and Rolex. Why? Because titanium watches are light and environmentally friendly. You will feel comfortable if you wear titanium watches.
